CPt. Kincannon was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Bronze Star, Nine Air Medals, and the Purple Heart
Cpt. Raymond Omer Kincannon was born April 17, 1944. From Chula Vista California. A Varsity football player and wrestler at Hilltop High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1962 as an enlisted man. Basic Traning at Fort Ord California. In 1964 he went to OCS and was Commissioned in June 1965.
Cpt. Kincannon arrived in Vietnam 1 Oct 1967 with The 1st Aviation Brigade, 17th Group, 223 Combat Aviation Battalion, Binh Dinh Province, Qui Nhon II Corps South Vietnam. 9 Oct 1967 he was assigned to the 203rd RAC Hawkeyes 3rd Platoon Phu Hiep, Phu Yen Province.
On the morning of 1 April 1968 Cpt. Kincannon along with his observer W0-1 Franklin D. Audilet 172nd M.I. Det. 173rd Abn took off from Phu Hiep Airfield in aircraft 0-15050 on a visual recon mission. Their aircraft crashed and burned south of Tuy Hoa in the southern end of Khanh Hoa Province, near Cam Rhan Bay.
Cpt. Kincannon left a wife, Linda, son David, and daughter, Janet.
Cpt. Kincannon was the 203rd Hawkeyes first casualty and gave his life for our country. This memeorial is for Cpt. Raymond Omer Kincannon never to be forgotten.
