Terry grew up on a Iowa farm. A graduate of Oregon State Univ. He was teaching when he got his draft notice. Because of his teaching job he could have gotten a deferment but he wanted to serve his country.
He arrived on 5 May 1968 at the 1st Aviation brigade, 223rd Combat Aviation Battalion HQ Qui Nhon Binh Dinh Province South Vietnam .
He was assigned to the 203rd RAC Hawkeyes 1st Platoon at Qui Nhon. He Had 11 Days in Vietnam and it was his first week with the 203rd.
He vollunteered to fly back seat observer, 11 June 1968 in Aircraft number 51-12008 an 0-1G Bird Dog Cessna Light Observation Plane.
In Army Aviation you need so many hours of flight missions to receive your crew wings and so many hours for an air medal. 11 June 1968 was PFC Iveners first four hour flight mission.
They were on a visual recon mission in Binh Dinh Province north west of Qui Nhon. While Making a low pass over a suspected enemy position in a large valley they received heavy ground fire and crashed. both were killed in action 11 June 1968.
